Diwali Pooja Preparations:

It is after sunset Deepawali Pooja is performed . The actual time for Puja is calculated by religious scholars and pandits which is declared in newspapers the previous day. It is very necessary that before the puja starts, the house should be completely neat and clean.On this festival people doDiwali puja with full devotion and offer prayers to Goddess Laxmi. They want to seek blessings of Goddess and therefore try impressing the Goddess of wealth.Diwali in 2011 will be celebrated on the 26 th October. The most auspicious part of the festival of lights is the Laxmi puja. It must be ensured that theDiwali pujan time is followed strictly if you wish to gain benefits out of this puja. All clutters in the house should be disposed. Diyas and candles are lit all around and in front of the house to illuminate the path of Lakshmi Ma. It is said that lighting of lamps ward off evil spirits. Many draw colorful Rangolis in the entrance. Small footprints with rice flour and vermilion are also drawn to indicate the long awaited arrival of Goddess Lakshmi. Oil lamps are kept burning throughout the night. This is believed to guide the path of the Laksmi Ma who is said to arrive secretly at night.

Pooja Items Required in Diwali Puja:

Traditional Pooja items include idols of Lakshmi – Ganesh, kalash, roli, mouli, coins, rice grains, kumkum for tilak, betel leaves and betel nuts, incense sticks, camphor, flowers, garlands. For offerings and prasad, sweets and fruits are needed.

How is the Diwali Pooja performed?:

There are various steps of performing the traditional Diwali Pooja in India. It is considered auspicious to start every Pooja by taking Shri Ganesha’s name. In the Laksmi puja also, this is followed. The idols are given a ritual bath and seated on a platform. Ritual worship is carried out. Aarti is sung and prasad is distributed amongst all in the following. It is said that it is only after completion of the puja that fire crackers should be burst.The literal meaning of 'Diwali' in Sanskrit is 'a row of lamps'. The most popular tradition of Diwali is filling little clay lamps with oil and wick and lighting them in rows all over the house. Even today, the tradition projects the rich and glorious past of our country and teaches us to uphold the true values of life.

Diwali has many legends and religious accounts associated with it. Lights and diyas are lit to signifying the driving away of darkness and ignorance, as well as the awakening of the light within ourselves. It is the perfect time for family gatherings, foods, celebrations and pooja. Goddess Laxmi plays a major role in this festival, as do Ram and Sita. This autumn festival is a five-days celebration, of which each one has its own significance.

People renovate and decorate their houses and business places. Entrances are made colorful with lovely traditional motifs of Rangoli designs to welcome Laxmi, the Goddess of wealth and prosperity. To indicate her long awaited arrival, small footprints are drawn with rice flour and vermilion powder (kumkum) all over the houses. Lamps are kept burning all through the nights.

Diwali Puja Muhurat for Pradosh Kal:

Pradosh kal Muhurtha is auspicious and remain for 2 hrs and 24mins from sun-set and to the place where you are living. In Delhi, India Pradosh Kaal may start from 18:46 to 20:41.

The auspicious Muhurat for Pradosh kaal is between 18:46 to 20:41 on 26 October 2011 in stable Ascendant (Taurus sign). Therefore between 18:46 to 20:41 Pradosh Kaal is auspicious for worshiping Lord Ganesha, Goddess Lakshmi, Kuber Pooja, business and giving donations to workers.All preparations of temple related to Puja, Rangoli, Deepdan etc should be done during Pradosh Kal. Additionally, it is considered auspicious to complete the work of sweets distribution during this time.

Also, the work of drawing of Swastika and writing Shub Labh on the doors should be done in this Muhurat time. Besides this, giving gift to the elders of the family and taking their blessings increases the auspiciousness in a person’s life. Giving donations etc. at religious places during this period is considered favorable.

Nishith Kaal for Diwali Puja Muhurat

It is auspicious to worship and adore goddess Lakshmi, all the nine planets, recite Mantras and Stotra, performing rituals, donating clothes, fruits, grains and money to brahmins. The Muhurtha of Nishith Kaal will start at 20:23hrs and may remain till 22:46hrs for those who are living in Delhi or its outskirts. The Taurus Ascendant will be active especially during this period.Calling and worshipping Dhan Lakshmi, Havan etc should be completed during this time. Apart from this, Maha Lakshmi Pujan, Maha Kali Pujan, writing, Kuber Pujan and chanting of mantra should be done during this time.

Mahanishith Kaal for Diwali Puja Muhurat:

Mahanishith Kaal is very auspicious for Cancer Ascendant. During the night of Deepawali Mahanishith Kaal is auspicious(Cancer Ascendant) between 23:29 to 01:51 in Delhi.

During this Muhurtha, Deepawali Poojan is inevitable to perform according to scriptures. The tantrik rituals, vedaarambh sanskara, havana, yagya, and other supernatural powers are adored or called upon during Mahanishith Kaal.During this time basically, Tantric work, astrological knowledge, rituals, worshiping of powers is performed and calling other powers is considered auspicious. After Diwali Pujan, a lamp with four wick is lighted the whole night in the house. This lamp is considered as the symbol of Lakshmi and increase in luck.

During this Muhurat place a four-faced diya in your house and light it for whole night after concluding deepawali poojan. This diya is a symbol of increase in wealth, income and prosperity.

Muhurat for Diwali Choghadiya:

Deepawali Choughadiyan Muhurtha is auspicious for worshiping goddess Lakshmi at home or family. Deepawali Poojan or worshiping goddess Lakshmi is auspicious in Kartik Maasa on no Moon day in Pradosh kal in the presence of stable Nakshatra in the night.Lighting diyas, candles and worshiping goddess lakshmi is special and auspicious during Pradosh kal Muhurtha.
